It is with great sadness that the family of Edward “Ed” Owen Smith share the news of his passing on August 10, 2022 in Butte MT. He was surrounded by loving family.
Ed was born in Springfield Massachusetts on March 25, 1961 to Paul G Smith and Grace F MacIntosh Smith. He was the youngest of five children.
He was predeceased by his brother Paul, his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and several cousins.
He leaves his beloved wife Mickala, his sons and their families, his step daughters and their families, his lab Amber, his brother Cy (Iris) and his sisters Kathy Smith and Vonnie Gilmore (Mark), many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He grew up in New England & South Deerfield MA. He spent childhood summers at Pawtuckaway Lake in NH. As a teen he terrorized the streets of South Deerfield. He graduated from Franklin County Technical School.
He met and married Tina Frost from Arkansas and they had two wonderful sons Scott Smith (son William) in Tennessee and James (Lora) Smith (daughters Christa and Evelyn) stationed in Hawaii. He was blessed with a beautiful step daughter Christina Brown. Ed and Tina were later divorced.
Ed met Mickala Ventling in Billings, Montana, at the Bungalow Bar on S. 27th St. He married Mickala on June 4, 2002 and was blessed with two additional step daughters Mickee (Keri) Skocilich (step daughters Katie (Paisley) and Kaedence) and Chantel (Jim) Nelson (daughter Theodora and son Finnegan).
Ed moved his family to California for three years (2002-2005), then to Alaska for three awesome years (2006-2009) and back to Kerman California where they lived for 11 years. There we made the most awesome friends in Kerman and the surrounding area!
His greatest love these past 11 years has been his grandchildren! He also enjoyed traveling around to different states and snowmobiling. He especially enjoyed the annual snowmobile trip to West Yellowstone with our closest friends. He loved working At the power plant with his coworker’s. He enjoyed many pets over the years!!
Ed moved Mickala back to Montana in 2021 where they have lived a great adventure until cancer took hold in March 2022. He fought an excellent fight!
He made friends wherever he went no matter where we traveled. He will be remembered and missed by so many.
A celebration of life will be held in Kerman, California, South Deerfield, Massachusetts and graveside in Lefor, North Dakota all at a later date. Donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone, MT.
